Living on the Edge: Community Meals
Community. That’s what my answer would be if someone asked me to describe Edge in one word. We are in community with each other, with God and with the people of Altea.
One prime example of this foundational pillar of Edge are our community meals; these meals that take place every week with a reoccurring set group of people. Each group has designated cooks and cleaners that alternate each week. We sit together, one table, no television. The only entertainment you can glean from community meals comes from enjoying the people around you.
I grew up in a very loving home, but family dinners were few and far between because my
family’s schedule was not cohesive to a common meal time. We were always running off to practice or an appointment… However, on the occasion that our food wasn’t “fast”, we would park ourselves in front of the family television and enjoy the entertainment from the flashing screen. This environment did not necessarily encourage talking.
Edge does things differently.
They are constantly pushing us to engage with one another on a heart level with laughter. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve eaten by myself in the past seven days. That is insanity coming from an introvert! Every moment with the Edge team has been a gift.
