3 Things That Define Edge, Part 2: Culture

EDGE is Culture

EDGE is Culture

EDGE is Culture

We at EDGE believe that God’s creative journey didn’t stop once the world was complete, held in space, spinning on His finger. He made man and woman and then somehow knitted within them the capability to express culture in a myriad of ways. We believe that culture isn’t just a fabrication of man, but a design of God.

What is culture?

/ˈkʌltʃər/ Show Spelled [kuhl-cher]
1.the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc.
2.that which is excellent in the arts, manners, etc.
3.a particular form or stage of civilization, as that of a certain nation or period: Greek culture.
4.development or improvement of the mind by education or training.
5.the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group: the youth culture; the drug culture.

Culture is Essence

Culture is the essence of a society. Not simply an accessory, but the expression of its definition.; it’s how a society looks, sounds, smells, speaks and believes. We believe that God doesn’t want to eradicate a peoples’ culture when they come to Christ, but to use their culture in expression to Him. He didn’t come to destroy, to bleach or whitewash a people as we’ve seen done throughout history, but to purify it and delight in it.

EDGE is about learning AND appreciating culture – on a very broad level. It’s not just understanding the people of Spain or Altea, but the people groups and subcultures within the town. This can reach as far as to the heart of an individual.

Who are you? What is your culture? How were you made to know and express God?

EDGE is about meeting people where they are – right where they are in their personal culture. Right where God met you.

Who Are The Spanish?

We use the areas that are important and central to Spanish culture to meet people. Spaniards are a very social society that enjoys food, music and art. We provide opportunities for them to draw close and get to know us, and ultimately God, through the areas of their lives that are most important. The Spanish are fun. The Spanish are colorful and full of life; they lead a vibrant existence. We wouldn’t dream of changing this – it is God given. We dream about understanding it, that we may truly understand and love the people. Our love is a reflection of God’s love.

Join us this summer as we live life on the EDGE, embracing, appreciating and living culture as a community of Christ followers.
